Suicide Postvention

Holding Hands_edited.jpg

Suicide Postvention is a term that was first coined by Edwin Shneidman, which he used to describe "appropriate and helpful acts that come after a dire event."

Suicide postvention is a process that has the objective of alleviating the effects of stress and helping those left behind - called suicide loss survivors - to cope with the loss they have just experienced.

Research shows suicide loss survivors are at a higher risk of suicide themselves.

We will work with you to identify and implement suicide postvention programs that best support your community such as:
  • 1st Responder L.O.S.S. Team: the Active Postvention model developed by Dr. Frank Campbell while he was with the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center

  • Loss survivor outreach and follow up protocols

  • Suicide Loss Support Group Facilitator training

  • Training Peer Mentors to support loss survivors using Dr. Alan Wolfelt's Companioning model

  • Engaging suicide loss survivors as part of prevention and postvention efforts

We will work with you to launch suicide postvention programs including support with:
